"Most beautiful resort on Hilton Head Island"
We have stayed at Sonesta several times and the overall beauty of the grounds and hotel are second to none. Great service, hospitality, dining and beach are fantastic. The rooms and entire resort is clean and well maintained. The landscape is lush. This resort has everything you need for a business trip or family vacation. I could list many more positives, but you should just go see for yourself! You will be happy you did!
"Nice location, attentive staff"
As the title suggests, this hotel is in a good location near shops and restaurants, yet nestled in a quiet neighborhood. The hotel is about a mile from Coligny Square and there is a free shuttle available. As other reviews suggest, the ocean view rooms may not be worth the extra expense since the ocean is pretty far away. However, I would avoid the rooms that overlook the parking lot. We had a corner king room that was very spacious although I found the bathroom a little small. On a positive note, we did not encounter one staff member that was unfriendly or not helpful. The staff seems well trained and interested in its guests' happiness. As a side bar, I would rent bikes from an outside vendor. We rented two bikes from Paradise bikes for $66 for four days. The bikes were delivered and placed in front on the bike rack. The hotel rents bikes as well but for $44 per day per bike. Biking on HHI is a must do. As for the outdoor space of the hotel, the pool gets very crowded with kids. There is a shaded pool that the hotel should probably convert to a regular outdoor, adults only pool. The beach is massive but can also can get a bit crowded. Chairs and umbrellas are easy to rent and reasonably priced. Overall, it was a positive experience and I'd recommend this hotel to others. Would recommend Java Burrito, Coast (Sea pines), Crazy crab. Would avoid Steamers and Marleys, overpriced and terrible atmosphere (unless you like loud, crowded, overpriced).
"Amazing stay!"
Hotel cleanliness, amazing staff, wonderful amenities! The only thing disappointing was the Spa, and I really must be spoiled with my personal masseuse, because my massage was disappointing... but overall, it was a great stay!
"My opinion of the sonesta resort hilton head sc"
My husband and i visited the sonesta resort on july 10th 2015. We went because my daughter and son in law , and grandchildren were there because they brought their three dogs. This was one of the few resorts that took pets. I read that the sonesta had been renovated and honestly figured it would be a little dumpy. I was most delightfully surprised. The place was beautiful and our room spacious and clean. It looked like a new hotel. The food was delicious and everyone was as nice as they could be. For a large resort i found it had a cosy atmosphere. It is great for families or if you are just a couple
"This was a ladies getaway vacation, and every bit of it was a delight."
I have not one complaint about this resort nor the employees. It's obvious that these employees are treated well and are highly respected. I could not believe how friendly, and courteous each of the employees were. The bell captain (Eric and Bobson) took very good care of me and were always friendly and willing to make things easier on you. I was always greeted with a genuine smile and a kind hello. Front desk clerks actually enjoyed what they were doing and very fast check in and check out there. Room service couldn't have been any better. The gift shop was full of great fashion merchandise. Very quality clothing and there was a selection of clothing for all women. I did quite a bit of shopping outside the resort, but found most of my clothing at the resort. Mary Howe is an excellent buyer and caters to all ages!! Something for everyone at this gift shop. I've been to many resorts in my life and this was exceptional.
"Birthday to Remember"
We have stayed at this hotel twice now. After what was supposed to be a surprise birthday trip for me, the hotel emailed me about our "upcoming reservation" a few days before. My husband called the manager to explain how it was no longer a surprise. When we arrived, the manager came to greet us. When we came in to the room, they had left a dessert tray with 'Happy Birthday' written in chocolate, a plate of cookies for our kids and a sand bucket for each child with a shirt and toys. Service like that is hard to come by these days. They didn't have to do any of that but it sure did make the day more special. The rooms are neat and clean, beds are comfortable and views are nice overlooking the pool. The food is good as well. The beach is a little too packed for my taste so we stayed by the pool. The kids movie by the pool was super cool especially since the water is warm at night. (The virgin pina colada was the best I have had in a long time.) The whole property is really well kept and pretty and all of the employees are very friendly. This hotel will definitely be our place to stay from now on.
"Awesome place"
First off, we were able to check in very early. 12pm which gave us time to enjoy a lot and get cleaned up. The downside is there isn't an Oceanview although it is 100 yards from the beach. The beach is a short walk and there are plenty of showers. The rooms are very clean and the beds are comfortable. The staff is very nice and accomodating. The pools are nice and stay open very late. The store is very expensive so make sure you don't forget a bathing suit! Overall very pleased and will come back.
"35th Anniversary"
My husband and I decided to travel to Hilton Head to celebrate our 35th Wedding Anniversary. We checked into the Sonesta and the service was outstanding. To our surprise, the front desk assistant Mr.Taylor had chocolate covered strawberries and wine delivered to our room. The room was nice and clean, comfortable bedding and we loved being right on the beach. We dinned at the hotel restaurant and our lovely hostess Keisha was such a delight. She was very attentive and at the end of our meal the onsite restaurant presented us with decorative cup cakes. Also, the bar/lounge staff was very great as well. Over all the hospitality was outstanding!! Thank you Sonesta
"Tropical Resort Meets Southern Hospitality"
My husband and I had traveled to Georgia to see some family and decided we would stop in Hilton Head on the way home to do a little reconnaissance before our vacation in August (we had not been to HHI before). The Sonesta is a wonderful resort located at the Shipyard. The hotel is nestled quite a ways past the gated entrance, down the road toward the beach, but you can't help but enjoy the drive thru the property - lots of towering trees draped in Spanish moss and lots lush, green landscaping. The Sonesta is beautifully maintained and staffed by a warm and professional staff. We had a basic room but it was well appointed with thoughtful touches (loved the motion-sensor night lights) and each room has its own balcony. Since we were only there for one night, we didn't use the pool, but we did trek down to the beach for a couple of hours just to sit and enjoy. The resort seems to be exceptionally well maintained and I honestly didn't notice anything that needed attention or repair (and I can be picky). The Sonesta's rates are probably higher than some other hotels (there are several chain properties scattered around) but if you want to feel like you're in a private, tropical world away from it all, this is the place to be. 2 Side Notes: 1) as with most resorts of this calibre, there is a daily resort fee charged in addition to the room rate; 2) this hotel seems popular with families, so there are plenty of kids around (but that didn't seem to be a problem).
"Quick beach stop"
A nice, easy stop for a couple nights on our way north. The staff was friendly and helpful, room was comfy and clean. Loved the poolside service with the cool washcloth! Kids enjoyed making a tie dye shirt as a souvenir. Beach was easy to walk to, but crowded at high tide, and the resort is tucked at the end of the road in the Shipyard Plantation.
"Great resort, best on HHI!"
First time here for a weekend getaway. What a great property and staff! Only thing to know is the rooms are a bit off the beach but the property is not. Just a short walk from the rooms/restaurant/pool to the beach. This is our new go to on HHI!
"" 4 1/2 hrs drive, no plane fare and you feel like your in the Caribbean""
Well, we have done this 3 times now. My Kids are difficult to please and they said lets not go abroad, lets go to Sonesta. Costly but, hey, no plane fares, modern luxury, and your private beach !! Not everybody comes here, or may be not everybody can come! So its calm, not rowdy, delightful ambience. We got in late on thursday night and we were very hungry. They had cheese, biscuits, apple, chocolate and water inside our room waiting for us. Oh, and since this was our third time they gave us 10% off all our meals/drinks. Then even did room service twice on saturday ! Rooms are roomy with a comfortable bath. The internet is slow. The view is not ocean view but pool. The foyer is amazing and glamorous, the food is good!!, again costly. Breakfast buffet is standard but with a good variety of fruits and pastries. The most enjoyable part is riding your bikes through the very large grounds " shipyard". You could probable ride daily for a week and still not cover the area. its like the garden of eden. We watched BIG 6 feet aligators in the pond and flying fishes in the mornings. We had worship in the mornings as we watched all the beauty awake around us. Walking on the very clean beach, lying in hammocks, sitting in the multiple seating settings and settings made it very relaxing. NO loud music- thank God. Very peaceful. We noticed multiple couples and families spending time together playing table tennis and lawn games. We love it!!
"Amazing facility and vview"
Was here for a business event and the hotel is spectacular. Love that it is right on the beach. The outside bar is wonderful for relaxing. We had a great band in the pavilion with wonderful music. I would love to return again!
"Fantastic!"
Our family, 4-day stay at Sonesta was amazing. Super clean resort, amazing service, several dining options, great stuff for the kids to do, and beautiful location. We barely left the resort - didn't need to! The location is at the end of a private area so it's very quiet with great trails for biking or running. When we asked our 5-year old what his favorite part was, he said, "the whole thing!" We will definitely return again.
"Business and pleasure"
Nice hotel for large groups food service good. Comfortable Clean Accommodating. Beach access excellent . Small frid.in room coffee maker No Work ! Did not ask for replacement rooms redecorated well. Very nice staff . Will revisit .
"The property is beautiful and the staff friendly!"
We took a spontaneous trip to Hilton Head and stayed three nights at the Sonesta. The resort is beautiful and the staff was very friendly and accommodating, even in the middle of the night. I have recommended it to friends and I can't wait to go back!!
"We never left the resort!"
My husband and I [early 30's newlyweds] stayed 3 nights over July 4th, and never left Sonesta once. That says it all! Such a relaxing vacation. The rooms are beautiful, clean, and modern. Food was FANTASTIC. Everyone we interacted with from bell staff to front desk was great. We felt spoiled and will definitely be back! Fruit infused water everywhere, onsite bike rental, nightly chocolate bar in lobby, plenty of indoor and outdoor sitting areas to relax, friendly staff.
"Modern, Comfortable and Clean"
The pool area was fantastic! Colors of modern orange "popped" everywhere with cool seating and a great kids area. The kids activities were awesome, the ocean was close, the room was very comfortable, clean and modern. The pillows were even comfy - which is SO uncommon for a hotel! The common area/foyer and both restaurants were also well-done. Access and distance to beach was just right. Great job Sonesta!
"Good choice"
Spent 4 days just prior to July 4th at this resort. Usually I rent a villa in Shipyard but it was not going to work out for us to stay a week this year. The Sonesta offered a last minute inexpensive rate and we jumped on it. Great bargain! Hotel is clean and well appointed, our room was upgraded and we would have liked to stay longer. Plenty of nice touches at this hotel. Front desk staff very friendly, property and grounds are kept beautifully. Parking can be an issue but only because you have to walk a bit from the on site lot if you choose not to do valet. Beach Front but I strongly suggest you rent the chairs from the beach hut on the beach. Such an easy way to enjoy a day. Some things are just worth the extra money especially when on vacation. We should all treat ourselves to a place like this !!!
"Hilton Head"
Sonesta Resort was wonderful! The property was recently renovated and was VERY nice and VERY clean. The staff was also very friendly which makes your experience a very positive one. I would highly recommend this property and it is on the beach!
"Wedding Venue"
After touring venues for our wedding, we found the perfect resort in the Sonesta in 2014. June 2015, my fiance and I were married under the pavillion. From our first meetings, tastings and the wedding-the catering staff was perfect. During our outside wedding, the weather was extremely hot-the staff did a great job ensuring fans, water and even cold towels to our guests. We were more than pleased. The whole resort is perfect for families and couples! The restaurants and bars are delicious and kid-friendly :)
"Beautiful hotel for vacationing"
Very shaded for bike riding and walking. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Lots of good sight seeing and restaurants in the area. We stay here at least four times a year, been coming here for 3 years. Very relaxing. Good food on site if you don't want to leave the resort.
"Comfortable, modern family-oriented beach resort"
Stayed just one night at the Sonesta en route back from a road trip in the mountains to Florida. It's an impressive modern hotel that had a relaxed feeling to it. Friendly service and a nice pool area though not an area for swimming laps. Well-equipped fitness center and a choice of restaurants. Good value.
"Great place for families"
We really enjoyed our stay. Last year we stayed at the Westin on Hilton head. It was a nice resort however I enjoyed the Sonesta much better for our kids. We have a four yr old and 21 month old. The pool is better with a zero entry. The beach access is closer than the Westin. For the kids they enjoyed the turtles, movie at pool, and received toys. On the weekend they had a special chocolate bar. Preztels, s'mores, etc! We all really enjoyed the chocolate bar. It was a great idea. There was a small issue and they moved us to a new room with no problem. They also delivered chocolate covered strawberries! Everyone who worked there was super nice and helpful. Sarah the server at the pool was very good she went out of her way to help us at lunch at the pool. They have several servers at the pool to assist you with lunch or drinks. You never have to leave your seat! We will be staying again! Thanks for the memories. If you have young kids this is a great resort!
"July 4th"
Our first stay at this hotel. The amenities are great. Hotel restaurant is excellent. They had a wonderful seafood buffet the whole family enjoyed. Their is plenty of fruit water for free. The hotel is next to the beach and a mile from Colingy shopping plaza. It is big but not too big. Overall an excellent place. I highly recommend it.
"Heavenly"
First time at Hilton Head and the Sonesta did not disappoint. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome. Three key personnel, Bobson, Maureen and Sherri made the celebration of my husband's 65th birthday a wonderful celebration. We'll definitely go back.
"Beautiful hotel and great location"
Travelled to Hilton Head for the first time August of 2014 as an anniversary trip and stayed at the Sonesta. We had a lovely trip that started off with champagne and strawberries for our 20th anniversary. The hotel had a great feel and just steps away from the beach via a boardwalk.. Thank you for a wonderful trip. Scheduled to come back this month. Can't wait.
"A classic family destination at HHI"
The Sonesta Resort Hilton Head has become our family summer getaway. It's our second weekly stay and started to plan our return for next year. Starting with a warm southern welcome from Charlie Ferguson that takes really good care of us, a big and very clean renovated room, to a very well laid out pool (please don't miss the Red Blood Mojito) surrounded by beautiful landscapes, ponds and all the amenities you may need for a relaxing time, including a short walking distance to the beach. Staff is courteous and professional, always willing to help, overall, a true five star resort with a Very Happy and Loyal customer.
"Spacious rooms"
Nice accommodations with pet rooms available. Wish pool area was larger, but it is decent. Plenty of beach area, but it is a short walk around a lake area, so you don't see much, if any, of the beach from the hotel. Food was very good - both by the pool and at the restaurant.
"Awesome again!"
My husband and I have always liked this place. We would come when it was Crown Plaza, came after renovations and we are back. The staff here is remarkable. From the gentlemen as you drive in, to the registration desk, to the store, to the staff cleaning the rooms and property. Everyone was very nice . The location is great! Short walk to beach, two pools, neat fitness room, and restaurants that have Very nice views. I am sure we will be back again.
